Fresh Lettuce, Big Smiles: Our First Hydroponic Harvest!
We are thrilled to announce the successful first harvest from the hydroponic farming project at Maaungoodhoo School! This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable agriculture and self-sufficiency within our community.
A total of 16 kilograms of fresh, crisp lettuce was harvested during this maiden effort. The produce was sold to our enthusiastic and supportive local community, generating an impressive profit of 2240 MVR. This revenue has been handed over to the school management to further enhance the institution’s educational and extracurricular programs.
The hydroponic project is proudly funded by the CSO Strengthening Project of The Asia Foundation, whose support has been instrumental in bringing this innovative farming technique to life in Maaungoodhoo. Hydroponics, a soil-less farming method, is not only resource-efficient but also environmentally friendly, making it a perfect fit for our island’s unique ecosystem.
This initiative has not only provided fresh and healthy produce to our community but also served as a valuable educational tool. Students have gained hands-on experience with sustainable farming practices, fostering a deeper understanding of modern agriculture and environmental stewardship.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported this project, from The Asia Foundation to our local community members who purchased the produce. Your encouragement and involvement are crucial as we continue to grow this initiative and inspire a greener, more sustainable future.
Stay tuned for updates as we expand our hydroponic farming efforts and strive for greater achievements together!
